Gymnázium Cyrila Daxnera is a secondary grammar school. It has existed since 1952 and provides a four-year course of general education for further studies at universities or other forms of higher education. After leaving school (passing the written and oral maturita exams), students continue in their studies at universities (the number of students who do so exceeds 90%). The school also does a lot of volunteering (partnership with disabled children school in town, hospitals - children's ward, blood donations, raising money for charities and charitable events), students parliament with the students board who organize activities for students, parents and the public.
The school has joined besides, All disease begins in the gut" Erasmus+ project, other 3 projects of this type before and it has always been highly motivating and benefiting all the involved.
The school has the ambition to contribute to the project with its very good relations with a university in Košice (UPJS) with access to laboratories and scientific work, another important aspect is a very good cooperation with a local chemical factory (Bukoza Holding), as they believe that they will provide them with the necessary expertise and practical help with our activities (eg are an official partner school of UPJS in Kosice). They also have a special class in each year focused on Biology and Chemistry as a preparatory course for future medical and pharmaceutical university studies.
Typical profile of students include mostly general secondary education based on national curriculum.
The school also offers a sort of specialisation - students can choose from the first year out of three modules (they continue in the chosen module till graduation): biology+chemistry focus, mathematics+physics+IT focus or general. This way, its students can enhance their knowledge and practical skills as they have extra lessons depending on their specialization. As for age groups, our school provides education for students aged 15 - 19 when they graduate from secondary school and continue at universities.
